CARRANZA FUNERAL

via email from Mary M. Crouse, 1-29-08
I hope that you can assist me. I have pictures that belonged to my grandfather. I have recently been going thru them and have found some pictures of, it looks like, a funeral, memorial, etc. and the name on the stand is Emilio Carranza. There are 6 men in one of the pictures and 2 men in the other one. My grandfather is one of the 6 men. I am wondering if this is the same Emilio Carranza, the aviator. Also wondering where these were made, and I don't know why my grandfather would have been there. It is most interesting to me. If you think this is something of your interest, you can email me back. I would be more than happy to make you a copy of the pictures and maybe the other gentlemen could be identified. Thank you for your time. My name is Mary Crouse Ft. Worth, Texas      I really don't know a lot about my grandfather. That is one reason we wondering who these men were in the picture, etc. His name was Robert Londy Burch, Sr. He was from Fort Worth, Texas, but traveled a lot and what he did I am not sure. I know that at some time I remember that my family went to visit him in Denver Co. He was in some kind of oil/uranium, business or something. There isn't anyone left in the family to ask and I am so curious about these pictures. I have several others that I will make copies of in the next couple of days and send to you, to see if you can identify where they were made. He died in 1962, and I am not for sure how old he was, but I believe he was in his 60's. I also looked on Google for the book. I will look again as I didn't find anything. I would like very much to see it.

Book Trails: On the Highroad to Adventure

I have in my possession a very old book given to my family by a family friend who knew Emilio Carranza. In this old book, she pasted news clips about his death. There are quite a few, some with photos.. There is also what appears to be a preserved flower from one of the events, possibly from those added to his casket during the transfer across the Rio Grande River. Is there a museum you are aware of that could benefit from this collection?

I apologize for this belated (ok, very belated) response. The truth is that I misplaced the book! Anyway, I found it a couple of days ago (high up on a seldom-used shelf) and will make copies of the relevant pages and send on to you. As a reminder, Mrs. Bea Ellison, an artist, knew Carranza and closely followed his death. She pasted news clippings in a story book as a way to preserve them. The book is entitled "Book Trails: On the Highroad to Adventure" and seems to have a publication date of at least 1924
