Black in a Dodge car for Namiquipa. Fair going but sprung a leak in the radiatotr. Reached Namiquipa 1:30 P.M. and reported to Gen. Pershing results of our Chihuahua trip. He was well pleased. Had a good chow in the general's mess. Started at 3:00 P.M. in lead of truck train north. Rader, Willis + myself with a S.C. chauffer. Reached Las Cruces at 5:30 P.M. and ahd a good meal. Left 6:00 P.M. and arrived at El Valle at 12:40 A.M. after very rough ride in the mountains. Monday April 24 - Slept in pile of hay until 5:00 A.M. Got breakfast from colored cook and left at 6:00 A.M. for the north. I was driving the Dodge as the S.C. chauffer knew very little about autos. We reached Colonia Dublan 10:50 A.M. drew rations filled up with gas and oil, and delivered our messages. Started 11:35 A.M. north. Ate lunch under some cottonwoods at 12:20 and got started again at 12:50 reacing Corrolitos 2:15 P.M. and Ascension 4:20 P.M. Had a good supper and started 5:45 P.M. reaching Columbus 12:25 A.M. after a very strenuous day of 175 miles over rough roads. Tues. April 25 - Rested in barracks most of day and got a good cleaning in the bathhouse.l A lot of mail greeted me. Received word of the death of Grandmother. Wed. April 26 - Letters to Mrs. C. and Col. G. Worked about barracks all day. Thu. April 27 - Letter to John. Tested N8s 17 + 18 m. Applied for sick leave + it went up rrecommended. Worked about barracks. Got large amount of sweets for fellows who treated us so well at San Antonio. Fri. April 28 - Work about barracks. Work on dope. Sat. April 29 - Work about barracks all day. Letter to Marie. Tested N8s 21 m. Sun. April 30 - Work on dope all day. Letters to Mother + John. Rain in afternoon + night. Mon. May 1 - Rain all nmight + in morning. Worked on dope all day. Two R2's arrived from Curtiss Co. Tues. May 2 - Exceedinglhy strenous day working on dope. The assembling of the R2's was started. Got word my sick leave was granted. Wed May 3 - Left Columbus 3:13 A.M. on sick leave. Work on dope all day on train. Thu. may 4 - Arrived San Antonio 4:00 A.M. + got out to quarters + packed up to go east. Saw Bowen and Willis. Left San Antonio 11:30, Work all afternoon typewriting. Fri. May 5 - Worked all day typewriting bill and organization. Arrived St. Louis 6:25 P.M. Went to Columbia and saw Scotnide? Hoffman. Left St. Louis 11:50 P.M. Sat. May 6 - All day on train. Finished typewriting organization. Finished letter to Mr. McCallie started April 16. Called on Morron's people 744 N. Negley Ave. during stop of 4 hours in Pittsburg. Left Pittsburg 11:10 P.M. Sun. May 7 - Arrived Washington 8:30 A.M. Rainy day. Consultation |
