  Dear Friend:

As coordinating chairman of a devoted group of volunteers who, with a small and equally devoted staff, do the tremendous work of the Committee for World Development and World Disarmament, I am proud to commed it to your support. Among our eminent advisors and friends are those whose names could bring more presitbe to this lletter but none who could speak more confidently of the day-to-day work and its results.

The program was begun in 1950 at a time when the ideal of World Economic Development as an instrument of peace was struggling for public understanding, and Disarmament was hardly spoken of above a whisper. The aim was to secure wider recognition fo the relation of these two fundamentals of peace.

The Committee is not a membership organization. It helps many other organizations, of all faiths and approaches to world problems, to coope4rate on development and disarmament. It depends on the voluntary support of men and women who share its purposes.

You who wish to contribute most effectively to the work of peace have often asked, "Why doesn't the Peace Movement unite?" "Isn't there too much duplication of effort?" "Doesn't the Peace Movement spread itself too thin?"

THE COMMITTEE WAS FORMED TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS BY ITS SEVICE OF COORDINATING, BY JOINT CONFERENCES EACH YEAR, BY EXCHANGES OF PUTLIBATIONS, SPEAKERS, SERVICES, ***BY DEVOTING CONCERTED ENERGY TO WHAT IT BELIEVES ARE THE BASIC PROBLEMS OF SECURING PEACE.

Won't you help us maintain and strengthen this effort by your contribution"

Sincerely,
Adelaide N. Baker
