A LIFELONG WRITER
by Ralph Cooper
According to her own recollection, Jo began to write when she was only a child. It is our good fortune that she saved many selected writings over the years. I have found numerous examples in her collection which I have reproduced below. Perhaps her crowning achievement was the publication of the biography of her father's career, Pioneer Pilot. As she used to say, she had been working on it for twenty years. During the last two or three years of its production, it dominated her life. She always said she was very glad she wrote it, but she would never attempt such a major project again. Most of her writing was as non-fiction articles for magazines and "Letters to the Editor." You will find examples of both kinds below.

A Sympathy Card
from the widower of one of Jo's long-time writer friends
"Jo fought so long and so hard. She was amazing. If there is a heaven, the two of them have already formed a writing group."
