  No peace seeker
Now with John Bolton appointed to United Nations, it brings back my memories of the first time I heard of the UN.
I was in high school in the Bay Area in April 1945 when it met in San Francisco. When I heard the news, I naively thought, "Thank God. Now there won't be any more wars where young men get killed. Now the war-like countries will sit down at a table and settle their differences like adults."
I'm almost sorry that I have lived to see that all crumble and the whole idea of a peaceful way to settle differences seems as impossible now as it was before World War II.
I had loved ones in that war and a husband in Korea and I feel great compassion for the families of men in Iraq. I have opposed the idea of war in Iraq from the beginning, but feel helpless to do much about it.
I'm terriby afraid Bolton will do mroe harm than good as our ambassador to the UN.
