Englewood, New Jersey
Well I worked for Chamberlain abut 8 months when things got slow so I quit airplane work for good and got into the auto work. I got a job as body man for a Ford dealer which lasted about a year when a tire man down the street offered me a better job vulcanizing and rebuilding tires. He knew I knew something about building Radios and it wasn't long after that he asked me about manufacturing our own Radios to sell to the tire customers. So one day, when I went to a dealer in town to buy some parts, he asked me if I knew of anyone who was interested in buying a Radio Shop which he owned and ran in Englewood, N.J. I told him I would like to see it, so went to Englewood with my wife to look it over, When we looked at it from the outside my wife said you must be crazy to buy that junk shop that the way it looked, but I took the chance and bought it. I said to my wife, you and I can make a go of it after we fix up the place, and we did. The first year we took in $19,000.00 but then the landlord would not give us another lease and we had to be out as he wanted the store for a Real Estate office. Fortunately we found a new store on the next corner where they were starting a new Apartment House with five stores below so we rented a store and an apartment in the building as we lived in Hackensack 6 miles away..
