BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
via email from Wade Johnson, LCdr, USCG, Ret. 10-23-04
Cdr. Stone was Coast Guard Aviator Nr. 1 and I seldom see this distinction under his name. He, like many who achieved so much aren't always properly recognized for their achievements. Elmer Stone is one of my heroes as is LCdr. Frank Erickson, along with Lt. A.N. Fisher and Lt. Stewart Graham, the first Coast Guard helicopter pilots, who are also seldom mentioned. I am eternally grateful to them all, for without them Coast Guard aviation would not be the vital activity it is today.

Coast Guard aviator nr. 1181
Coast Guard helicopter pilot nr. 500
