WALTER TAKES A JOB IN BUFFALO, NEW YORK

Pops soon had an offer from the Curtiss Co. to come to Buffalo, New York and teach the flying boat. We lived in a boarding house there, very interesting. It was at 219 Porter Avenue and Pops flew at the foot of Porter Avenue. One of the men he taught was Al Johnson. He knew land planes, but not boats. Pops could teach on either.
There were men from Russia there with their wives. Danny (Loas mother) spent time there with me, getting baby clothes ready, etc. We were flabbergasted at a Russian woman who brought her baby boy into our room to visit and let him lay on the bed with no diapers. Danny didn't think much of that.
We were there only a few months when just before Christmas, December 16, Pops accepted a position with the Curtiss Flying School in Newport News, Virginia. Capt. Baldwin was in charge there. Pops taught on flying boats for quite a while. On one occasion, he was sent to Washington, D.C. to demonstrate the boat in connection with a Curtiss lawsuit.
