1931 NATIONAL AIR TOURISTS TAKE OFF FROM FORD AIRPORT
 

 
   
  The only two women passengers accompanying the 1931 National Air Tour for the Edsel Ford Trophy, which started from Ford Airport, Saturday, are Mrs. James H. Doolittle, left, wife of the noted former Army flier who is referee of the tour, and Mrs. Ray W. Brown, wife of the assistant starter of the tour. Both women are flying in Doolittle's plane. As each plane entered in the tour is required to carry its maximum load, each person and each article of baggage carried was weighed before the tour started. The photo shows Walter E. Lees, veteran Detroit flyer, on the scales while Harry Russell, Ford Motor Co. pilot who won the tour last year, looks on.
