AN ALARMING CAT

My cat Maria was used to having breakfast at a regular time every day and was smart enough to know that when my clock radio came on, I would get up and feed her. When my work shift changed from day to night, Maria did not like it when the alarm didn't go off at her usual mealtime, so she learned to pounce on the clock radio and push the buttons with her paw until she made the radio turn on. She let me know that it was time to get up and feed her--no matter what shift I was working. I"m proud of my clever cat.

Jo sold this little item to the Modern Romances magazine of August, 1987. It was published in their "Pet Pals" section, along with two other little stories. They paid her $50 for the article.
