THE EARLY BIRD SPECIAL MONUMENT COMMITTEE visited Governors Island in December of 1953 to select the exact site for the
monument. From left to right--John J. Curran, Brig. General Frank P. Lahm, E. N. Pickerill, Lt. Commander Beckwith Havens, Clarence deGiers. Research by deGiers into the authentication of names to appear on the monument revealed that 22 of the 56 names originally submitted did not qualify.. |
