"Bud" Mars, a pupil of Glenn H. Curtiss, who fell in the lower harbor with his aeroplane yesterday, qualified today by three flights at Sheepshead Bay race track, as a licensed aviator of the Aero club of America. His first flight was for four and half minutes, his second for five minutes and his third for six minutes. The conditions require that each flight shall be for five kilometers or more, under observation.
There are only seven other aviators with American licenses. They are Wilbur and Orville Wright, Glenn H. Curtiss, Captain Thomas F. Baldwin, Louis Paulhan, Clifford B. Harmon and J. Armstrong Drexel.
Ely, another Curtiss pupil, made three circles of the course at a height of about 1,000 feet while Mars was qualifying.
